Tempranillo is one of the main "signature" grapes of our vineyard. The 2009 Tempranillo was made from "3rd leaf" (3-year old) Tempranillo vines from our "estate" in San Diego Country, which is to say these grapes were home grown. The wine is dark, rich and has a very distinctive flavor. Aged in French oak for one year, the wine has been developing a nice "bottle bouquet" and is beginning to mellow. When we drank it at the 2011 harvest (after it had aged 2 years), I found it to be surprising enjoyable and it should continue to improve with age. In fact, it could prove to be fantastic with a little more aging. I describe this wine as thick and strong. It accompanies meat and cheese very well.
